All adoptions require a completed application, reference checks, a home visit, an adoption fee and a contract that states that the dog will be returned to us if the adoption doesn't work out for any reason. All of our adoptable dogs will be temperament evaluated, spayed or neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations and heartworm tested - unless health circumstances prohibit it.
Please don’t wait until you see your ‘DREAM’ dog before submitting an application to adopt. Getting your application pre-approved will keep your next family member from having to be in foster care for very long. Be sure and check out our ‘Happy Tails’ section to read about some of our wonderful success stories.
We love hearing from the adoptive families about how their newest member is doing. The loyal unconditional love and companionship that a pug will bring to your home is truly priceless. There is a reason that ‘Pug People’ are so devoted to the breed!
All dogs receive the following care prior to adoption:
- Comprehensive examination by a licensed veterinarian
- Vaccinations (rabies-1 year, DHPP, worming)
- Spay or Neuter- unless there is a significant health risk with the Pug.
- Heartworm test and treatment (if necessary)
- Micro Chip
- Treatment of illnesses, medical problems, malnourishment, etc.
- A diet of quality dog food

STEP 1: The Application

Adopting a Pug is not a decision one should rush into. You are considering a commitment that could last as long as fifteen years or more. Your Pug will become a member of your family and an important part of your life. No breed is right for everyone. Learn as much as you can about the Pug breed to see if the breed characteristics will be a good match for your personality and lifestyle and also read about rescue dogs.
We ask each person interested in adopting a Pug to begin by completing an adoption application. The application asks a lot of standard questions to help us ensure a good match. You must answer all questions, use as much detail as you like. You also must include your physical home address, NOT a P.O. Box. We will not answer any questions about our available pugs until you have completely filled out our adoption application and a vet reference is completed (where applicable). Incomplete applications will not be processed.
Though you may think our adoption procedures are a bit stringent, please remember that many of these are Pugs have already been separated from a home, and not always a loving one. Some have been through the frightening experience of being in a shelter, or worse, a commercial breeding facility. We try very hard to make the adoptions successful, and make the best possible decisions for the Pugs. Our adoption process helps to assure us that you are ready for the commitment and responsibility of adopting a Pug into your family. Our top priority is the right Pug into the right home. Adoptions are not completed unless everyone is happy - you, the Pug Rescue of Northwest Arkansas members involved, and the Pug.
STEP 2: DISCUSS APPLICATION
You will be contacted by a Pug Rescue of Northwest Arkansas representative via e-mail or phone to discuss your application. You can expect to answer more questions regarding your application. At this time our available Pugs will be discussed to determine which Pug may be a match for your family.
Please note that we do not operate on a first come first serve basis. Our Pugs are placed into the most suitable home according to their temperament and needs. It is not abnormal for multiple families to be interested in the same Pug.
STEP 3: HOME VISIT
A home visit will be scheduled. This home visit provides us an opportunity to get to know you and for you to get to know more about us and the rescue Pug you are interested in adopting.
STEP 4: DECISION
All members of Pug Rescue of Northwest Arkansas will meet and discuss your adoption application, your home visit and the pug you are requesting. Once we feel we have made the best possible decision based upon this criteria, we will make a decision to proceed to adoption day, deny your application, or keep your application for future pug possibilities if we feel the Pug you are requesting is not the right match, but that you would be a good Pug owner possibility.
STEP 5: ADOPTION DAY
An exciting day for all of us!! Please be prepared to bring your new Pug home. You will need to have a list of supplies already purchased to make the transition as easy as possible for your family and the dog. Dog Bowls, food, treats, crate (if necessary) and a leash.
It is at this time you will be signing the adoption agreement and paying the adoption fee. Adoption Fees range from $100-$350 based on age. All Pugs have been brought up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested and treated, health exam performed, fecal tested, and spayed/neutered.
Now you and your Pug get to begin your life together. We will continue to follow up with your progress through email or phone conversations. Our members will continue to have an active interest in the Pug we have placed in your home. You should feel free to contact us at any time with your questions and concerns.
Please remember that the adoption fee is not for purchase of a dog, but rather to cover the medical cost of all dogs in our care.
